As we embark on the busiest shopping period of the season, millions of Americans will be spending their weekend going store to store getting in on some sweet deals! And with store hopping comes extensive travel from one point to the next. These next few days will bring about continuous chances of snowfall for those traveling through the central Rockies, and a renewed opportunity for snow for areas that have remained rather reprieved from the white coating (thus far this season). Beginning this afternoon, snowfall accumulations are expected to continue for the higher elevations of the central Rockies as a shortwave trough is expected to progress eastward through the central Plains this evening. This eastward system progression through the weekend will bring some measurable snowfall accumulations from Topeka through Detroit Michigan. The passing of this system through the central portion of the U.S will also usher in polar air on the back end, which is expected to lead to renewed lake effect snowfall opportunities for portions of the eastern Great Lakes beginning early next week!
